Gold worth Rs 92.5 lakh seized
Gold worth over Rs 92.5 lakh was seized from passengers at Chennai airport on Thursday and Saturday by officials from the Customs Department.

On Saturday, a 26-year-old man from Thanjavur who arrived from Sharjah was intercepted at exit. After search, it was found that three bundles of gold in rubbery spread were found kept concealed in rectum. After extraction, official recovered 344 grams of gold worth Rs 11.51 lakhs from him and the same was seized under Customs Act 1962.
On Thursday, based on information, Air Intelligence Unit Officers intercepted two persons from Sri Lanka. They were identified as Mohamed Abdul Azees, who was 75-year-old, and Mohamed Musthak (25), who had arrived from Cochin at the domestic terminal. On examination of the hand bag of Mohamed Abdul Azees, 5 bundles wrapped with adhesive tape were found concealed in the bag. Gold bars, with foreign marking, weighing around 2.08 Kg worth Rs. 81 lakhs were recovered. They were seized under Customs Act. As both the passengers admitted having committed the crime together, they were arrested.
