Chennai
There are about 10 godowns in Thandalkazhani on GNT Road. Around 4 am, a fire broke out at one of them, an oil godown, which soon spread to nearby godowns where carton boxes and furniture were kept.
The security guards who noticed smoke emanating from the godown alerted Fire and Rescue Services personnel. At least eight fire tenders from Red Hills, Madhavaram, Manali, Ambattur, Tondiarpet, Sembium and Avadi rushed to the spot to douse the give. Five water tankers from the nearby Metro Water stations were also brought to help in the operation. After struggling for about three hours, the firefighters put out the blaze, police said, adding that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
The Red Hills police have registered a case and further investigation is on to find out whether a short circuit led to the fire or whether it was the handiwork of miscreants.
