The police said that the victim Easwari had been saving money in her account in the Kunrathur branch for her daughter’s wedding. When she withdrew some money on Monday, she realised that the bank balance did not tally with her pension savings.Â
Easwari confronted the bank manager who in turn showed her all withdrawal challans signed by her. She told the manager that her signature has been forged and following his suggestions, she lodged a complaint at the Kundrathur police station.Â
On suspicion, the police picked up the cashier, 47-year-old Palanivel, a resident of Choolaimedu, who during interrogation, confessed that he forged Easwari’s signatures and withdrew cash ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000 whenever he needed it.
The police said that Palanivel had joined the branch two years ago. He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
