Kidnapped bizman rescued within 5 hours, two detained

Thanks to the alert public who immediately informed the police about the incident, the team was able to rescue him just a few kilometres away from the kidnap spot.

The victim, Ravichandran of Anna Nagar, is said to be a contractor for the Public Works Department (PWD). On Thursday morning, he was going for a walk when an Innova car pulled up near him at Shanthi Colony. Before he could realise what was happening, four men who got down from the car pushed him into the vehicle. Though he tried to resist, they overpowered and dragged him inside the vehicle and sped away from the spot.

However, there were other members of the public near the spot when the kidnap happened. Some of them immediately alerted the police control room and also the Anna Nagar police about the incident. Swinging into action, the police first verified the CCTV footage retrieved from the locality. Then, special teams were sent to different possible directions to trace the car.

Just a little distance away at Tirumangalam, one of the teams spotted the car parked on the side of the road. The personnel immediately surrounded it. During the rescue bid, two men fled the spot but the police team managed to secure two of the gang members.

After a preliminary investigation, the police said that Ravichandran had borrowed about Rs 70 lakh from one Jayakumar of Theni district to fund his business. However, he failed to return it as promised. Though Jayakumar asked him for the money several times, there was no response from Ravichandran.

Then Jayakumar decided to kidnap him to make him return the money. The two men who were detained were identified as Dinesh and Purushothaman, Jayachandran’s friends, said police, adding that Jayakumar was also part of the kidnap gang.

The duo is being interrogated for more information, even as a hunt is on to track Jayakumar and the other suspect, identified as Jothikumar.
