2 maids held with valuables stolen from bizman’s house at Egmore

The accused, R Lokanayaki (48) and A Shalini (34) of Chetpet, were secured from their residence by a special team of police personnel based on information that they have returned from their hideout.

While the incident happened a week ago, the Egmore police had launched a hunt for the women on suspicion after they stopped coming to work. The jewels belong to G Kalyan Kumar (40) of Casar Major Road in Egmore, who works abroad.

While his aged parents stayed at the home, the women were hired as caretakers. After they suddenly stopped coming to work, Kalyan Kumar’s parents came to know that the jewels were missing. Based on a complaint, the Egmore police registered a case and arrested the duo. A hunt has been launched for Shalini’s husband Andrews and a few others who are suspected to have been behind the burglary.

Meanwhile, the Ambattur Estate police have arrested a burglary duo and have seized 53 sovereigns and Rs 2 lakh in cash apart from silver articles. The police said that the accused A Mohammed Dhaga (43) of Ambattur and B Sekar (43) of ICF Colony were behind the series of burglaries reported in Nolambur, Ambattur and Ambattur Industrial Estate.

They were arrested in connection with a snatching case and investigation revealed that they were serial burglars. The stolen valuables were seized from them before they were remanded in judicial custody.

It may be noted that the Rajamangalam police had already arrested one Soniraj in connection with the burglaries in Korattur, Kolathur and Rajamangalam and seized 4 sovereigns from him.
