8-yr-old injured as banner at school slips from worker’s hand

The victim, A Immanuel, is a Class 3 student of Don Bosco Nursery and Primary School at Sastri Nagar in Vyasarpadi. The incident happened around 11 am when he was walking back to his classroom from the restroom along with his classmates.

Immanuel's uncle Lawrence Raj said that the school administration had erected the banner at a height of 40 feet for an event there and had deployed an outsider to remove it on Saturday. "While the worker removed the banner from the second floor of the school building, it slipped and fell on Immanuel's head along with the rod," he said.

Such was the wound that the doctors at a nearby hospital had to put 16 stitches. He was later shifted to Apollo Hospital, where doctors have kept the boy under observation for 24 hours.

Based on his father Anthony Selvam's complaint, the MKB Nagar police registered a case and detained the worker. When contacted, police said that they are inquiring about the incident to decide who all should be booked.

Lawrence Raj alleged the school authorities were not reachable.
