Chennai
Late on Wednesday evening, an eight-member gang surrounded Diwakar (28) of Singaravelan Nagar, a fish vendor, and hacked him multiple times with machetes near fish food vendors’ association office in Kasimedu. Diwakar was a history-sheeter with murder and attempted murder cases pending against him.
The brutality of the murder was captured by a CCTV camera, the footage which showed an unsuspecting Diwakar talking to a friend when the gang suddenly started attacking. His friend who was standing next to Diwakar and others in the vicinity ran away in fear. The gang members, after hacking him repeatedly to ensure his death, fled the spot a few seconds later.
On information, the Kasimedu police rushed to the spot and sent Diwakar to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital. But he was dead by the time they reached the hospital.
A case was registered and a team led by inspector Isakki Pandian secured six suspects, D Lokesh (25), R Vimal (23), L Sarathkumar (24), S Velmurugan (23), M Anthony (25) and J Stephan (21), of the same locality and are hunting for two more who are absconding.

Man hacked to death, three detained
In another murder on Thursday, a 26-year-old man was hacked to death in Kodungaiyur. The police have detained three of the suspects. The deceased was identified as S Dayalan of Ennore.
Dayalan’s elder brother Chandru separated from his wife Tharani, after which she recently married Dasthagir alias Dhanush. Angry over this, Chandru went to Dasthagir’s house at Erukkancheri in Kodungaiyur on Wednesday evening and asked him to return the jewels he had bought for Tharani. This led to a quarrel and the police had to intervene to pacify them.
Dasthagir allegedly invited Chandru for talks on Thursday. However, it was Dayalan who went on his brother’s behalf. There, Dasthagir, Tharani and Sukumar, a mawa dealer, allegedly attacked him with weapons and murdered him.
The Kodungaiyur police retrieved his body and sent it for autopsy. They have detained all three for inquiry, but are also investigating if there is any other motive behind the murder.
