Collection of parking fee at temple stayed
The Madras High Court on Wednesday granted an interim stay in the collection of entry fee and parking fee from those visiting the Devi Karumariamman Temple in Thiruverkadu.
Chennai
A division bench comprising Justice M M Sundresh and Justice Krishnan Ramasamy granted the interim stay on a public interest litigation moved by one Balasubramanian after directing the Secretary, Municipal Administration and other authorities related to such collection to file their reply on the issue by April 1.
The petitioner had submitted that when rules restrict Municipalities from collecting entry and parking fee for temples located within the Municipal limits, the Thiruverkadu Municipal Commissioner had come out with a tender on February 13 for collection of entry and parking fee for those visiting the Karumariamman temple.
Based on this, he sought the court to stay the collection of such fees which has been thrust on the devotees visiting the temple.
