The men and women in khaki, who were made to dance in videos aimed to create awareness on coronavirus outbreak, are not a happy lot.

“Why have they asked us to do it when they always took action against us when we did videos for TikTok,” asked a policeman who doesn’t want to be named.

Police personnel of a few districts felt that they were unnecessarily dragged into such initiatives by their superiors.

“Why should we be forced to dance in uniform like folk artists? This is certainly not our work during such time of crisis,” noted a policeman.

Many of them feel that senior officials are forcing them to do it to earn names for themselves. “They wanted to show that they conducted awareness programmes on our expense,” the policeman noted.

It is not clear if Tamil Nadu officials decided to do it after seeing a similar short film done by Kerala police, where they are dancing to a song from a recent movie Ayyappanum Koshiyum. “That movie is based on a policeman and people can connect with it. Here, we are just asked to dance to random songs. Will any other department waste its manpower for such acts,” asked the policeman.
