LIVING THE i LIFE: ‘If you want people to stay, you need to give them your time’
The ongoing lockdown has forced many of us to alter the way we go about our daily routine. Chennaites share tales of the changes they have made to adapt to the new ‘normal’ of living and working with limited interaction

It’s like Bigg Boss. I used to wonder why the celebrities would yell and scream at each other but now I get it. I’m doing the same with my family. The silver lining to all of this is that my guru - who usually never takes virtual lessons - has finally agreed to take classes online within the next few days. I’m taking classes for my students, too, because they’re all so bored at home. I’m going back to what I learned when I was younger because now I have the time to research and recollect. Revisiting the history of dance is a gift for me right now. I realised that I have spent so much time chasing opportunities. Hard work is important. If you put in the work, the reward will reach you. I had an HCL performance lined up with the Music Academy on March 23. It was cancelled. But rather than being sad about it, I now have the time to revisit those performances and understand the pieces better. I also have the opportunity to make more drafts and experiment more. I took part in a live called Art Heals, and I began by saying it wasn’t a showcase, but a prayer to bring our lives back to what it was. I have been given the gift of time with family too. I have time to cook for my husband. My schedule was hectic before lockdown. Work will come and go, but if you want people to stay with you, you need to give them your time. That’s what I have learned.
