Based on a tip-off, a special team of Mylapore police range secured a man from Vannandurai in Besant Nagar, who had bought ganja from a food delivery boy.
Based on his inputs, the police arrested the peddler. He was identified as A Gunasekaran of Perungudi, a Commerce graduate. He claimed that he was working for a food delivery app for over a year, However, due to the lockdown, he did not get much work. As the police do not stop food delivery workers, he made use of the uniform to deliver the contraband concealed in the delivery box.
With the movement of drugs largely restricted due to the Statewide lockdown for over six weeks, regular users are willing to pay a much higher rate than the usual. According to officials, Gunasekaran received a 10gram sachet for Rs 500 in Navalur (OMR), which he sold for Rs 800 to customers.
As many as 20 sachets were seized from him, before he was handed over to the Foreshore Estate police. Gunasekaran was booked under NDPS Act and was arrested.
