According to Corporation data, 94 out of the 332 cases reported on Saturday were from outside containment areas – about 29 per cent. What is worrying for the officials is that 7 of the 94 cases reported outside the containment areas are unlinked new cases. Of the cases confirmed on Saturday, 33 persons are frontline workers including health workers, police, sanitary workers and other government servants.

The highest number of cases outside containment areas were reported in Kodambakkam and Royapuram zones, where the number of affected persons already crossed 1,000 cases. Data revealed that 15 and 13 cases in Kodambakkam and Royapuram respectively are from outside containment areas.

Also, 135 cases within containment areas and 76 cases from outside them contracted the virus from outside their families, while remaining cases have home contacts.

As on Sunday morning, there are 712 containment areas in the city. Thiru Vi Ka Nagar and Royapuram had 123 and 113 containment areas respectively. The civic body had halved the containment period to 14 days from 28 days as was the case earlier. Based on this, restrictions in 46 containment areas were relaxed on Sunday, as these localities have not reported any new cases for more than 14 days.
