Attention diversion tactic: Elderly man relieved of Rs 38,000
A retired government employee lost Rs 38,000 to a two-wheeler rider, who escaped with the cash on the pretext of offering a lift, in T Nagar.

The victim, Sivaraman, is a retired employee of Shipping Corporation of India. On Monday, he walked to an ATM kiosk near Panagal Park and withdrew Rs 40,000.
When he was walking back home, a two-wheeler rider offered him a lift. Even though Sivaraman initially refused the offer, later he agreed to go with him. After reaching home, Sivaraman checked the cash and found Rs 38,000 missing.
Based on his complaint, the Pondy Bazaar police registered a case and are combing the CCTV footage retrieved from the locality for possible clues.
In another burglary bid, an unidentified duo brutally attacked a 64-year-old security guard in Anna Nagar in the wee hours of Wednesday.
B Anandan, who works as a security guard at Dr Selva’s Plastic and Aesthetic Centre at Shenoy Nagar, woke up to noises around 2 am and found two men trying to break open the clinic.
When he raised an alarm, the duo hit his head with an iron rod and fled the spot. Neighbours rushed him to a private hospital where he got 14 stitches on his head.
Based on his complaint, the Anna Nagar police registered a case and have launched a hunt for the suspects.
