Post Intelligence chief retirement, State to get ADGP-level head
Even as the Inspector General of Police KN Sathyamurthy, one of the long-serving officer as head of State intelligence wing, is all set to retire this month-end without opting for an extension, police circles are abuzz with speculation on the new chief for the sensitive and powerful wing.

Government is expected to bring in an officer in the rank of ADGP to head the intelligence wing, which could also trigger a shuffle among senior police posts in the State. DGP Ms Sreelakshmi Prasad and ADGP SN Sehsasayee are also set to hang their boots this month
Sathyamurthy was first appointed as IG, Intelligence in December 2015, replacing Davidson Devasirvatham. Though the Election Commissioner shifted him during 2016 Assembly polls, he was brought back by Jayalalithaa government in May 2016. Sathyamurthy had been kept under ‘compulsory wait’ after his transfer in February 2017 at the peak of political drama in the State after former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam’s revolt against then AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala. He was replaced by Davidson Devasirvatham in February 2017.
However, Davidson Devasirvatham was also shifted out within two weeks leaving then IG, Internal Security C Eswaramurthy as officer-in-charge of the wing until Sathyamurthy was brought in again in April 2017. Except for the two breaks, which come to around three months, Sathyamurthy has been handling the politically sensitive wing since December 2015.
