An official release said that the consumers whose due date falls between March 25 and July 5 would be granted time till July 6 without disconnection and reconnection charges. The consumers from districts other than these four, whose the last date falls between March 25 and June 15, should pay their bill by June 16, it added.

    Tangedco denies actor Prasanna’s charges
After a tweet by actor Prasanna charging it of excess billing led to a barrage of similar complaints on social media, Tangedco issued a statement denying actor’s charge and condemning him for using strong words to criticise it when it had implemented the calculation methodology as per the TNERC rules.

In a tweet on Tuesday, the actor wrote, “How many of you feel #TNEB is on a looting spree amidst this Covid lockdown?” He told a Tamil news channel that the electricity bill amount has doubled compared to the usual when the reading was taken in May. He said he had to pay about Rs 70,000 for his house, father and father-in-law residences together.

After the actor’s tweet, the hashtags #TNEB and #TNEBstoplooting started trending, with many consumers sharing photos of their electricity bill.

In response, Tangedco gave a detailed break up of the units consumed by the actor’s houses and the explained how the amount was calculated to Rs 42,632.

“If the people have any doubts over the billing, they should approach the appropriate section office of the Tangedco and seek clarification.

They could also visit www.tangedco.gov.in to know how the calculation is being done,” it added in the statement.
