75-year-old man, teen among three held under Pocso

The 75-year-old accused, Muthu alias Pattani Muthu of Vettuvankani, was arrested by Adyar all-women police on the charges of sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl at his grocery shop when she came there to buy essentials on March 29. A case was registered on the same day based on a complaint by the victim’s mother, but the accused was on the run before being caught on Monday. In Mylapore, a 30-year-old man was arrested for misbehaving with a 16-year-old girl. The accused, A Manikandan of Triplicane, allegedly misbehaved with the victim twice – first when she visited the shop on May 13 and again on May 30 at the victim’s house. He tied the victim’s hands before sexually exploiting her and also threatened her not to reveal to anyone else. The accused was arrested under Pocso Act.

In the third incident, an 18-year-old boy has been arrested allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl after kidnapping her on the promise of marriage. After receiving a complaint that the minor girl went missing on June 2, the Villivakkam police began investigations and traced her to the accused Sanjay alias Balaji’s house in Perumbakkam and rescued her. Investigation revealed that the boy befriended her when he had come for work in Villivakkam, said officials, adding that he sexually assaulted her several times keeping her in confinement. He was arrested under Pocso Act on Monday. All three accused were remanded in judicial custody
