Customs dept opens e-office to lodge appeals
The Customs Department launched an e-office at the office of the Customs Commissioner, Appeals, located at Customs House in Chennai, on Wednesday.

The new facility was inaugurated by Chief Commissioner of Customs GV Krishna Rao. The e-office is expected to make the Customs appeals office a paperless one and also usher in an attitudinal change along with effective and transparent operation within the department, noted a press release from the Customs.
The new concept it also expected to benefit public in terms of enhanced transparency, increased accountability and assured data security, besides bringing in huge transformation in work culture, noted a Customs official. With the launch of e-office, taxpayers are encouraged to use the e-form of communication in PDF format. Those who approach the Customs Appeals office through the new facility are requested to provide e-mail address and mobile phone numbers to facilitate immediate acknowledgement, the press release said, adding that they would receive a diary number which could be used for further references.
