Leakage from power cable kills woman near Pulianthope
Walking home on the water-stagnated street turned fatal for a 35-year-old woman as she suffered an electric shock in Pulianthope on Monday morning. The residents, meanwhile, staged a protest claiming that both the Corporation and Tangedco officials ignored their petition to rectify the leakage from underground electric cables.

The deceased Halima of Periyar Nagar in Pulianthope was separated from her husband and was working as a domestic servant in the locality, said police.
The incident happened around 9.20 am when she was walking through Narayanaswamy Street. Since the street was inundated after the rain, she was wading through the water.
A CCTV footage retrieved from the street showed that Halima went to one side of the street and bent to pick up something. When she took the next step, she suffered an electric shock and collapsed on the spot even as the vehicles were passing by.
A 108 ambulance rushed to the spot after alerted by residents and she was rushed to Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared her dead on arrival. On information, Pulianthope police registered a case and sent her body for postmortem.
Police said she came in contact with an exposed underground cable and died of electrocution. Police also pacified the protesters after which they dispersed.
