Post aspirants’ suicides, protests held at most centres
Enraged over three NEET aspirants committing suicide over stress just a day before the examination, members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Students Federation of India (SFI) staged protests in front of a few examination centres on Sunday morning.

Holding placards, the protested raised slogans with the singular demand to ban NEET at exam centres in Ayanavaram, Vepery, RK Nagar, Aminjikarai and Mylapore, police said. However, all the protesters were rounded up by police and detained in marriage halls. They were released after the exams got over. Following the spate in NEET-related suicides, the city police had deployed adequate force at all exam centres in the city anticipating protests, clarified an official. “No major untoward incident had been reported during the protests and the exams were held in a smooth manner,” the official added. Tension also prevailed in other districts, of the State, especially Dharmapuri, where family members of M Aditya refused to take his body until the goverment intervened.
