Chennai city Police Commissioner Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal launched the Salaam Chennai video in the presence of its music director Ghibran and senior police officials.
The video salutes the relentless work put in by the COVID-19 frontline workers, besides highlighting the need to prevent the virus.
The song was composed by Ghibran and the lyrics penned by Karthik Netha. Featuring cricketers Murali Vijay, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina and Laxmipathy Balaji, it was made by Happy Unicorn, directed by Avinash Hariharan and released by Think Music.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Aggarwal said the Salaam Chennai song was created to celebrate and salute the selflessness of frontline workers. The basic idea was to spread the message that “We shall overcome this together” and enliven the spirits of people so that they could bounce back with high spirits, he said.
He said that despite more than 2,400 police personnel getting exposed to COVID-19, the city police have been discharging their duties with the same level of commitment.
Avinash said “the cricketers instantly responded by sending their videos from the safety of their own homes.” The film was shot with a lot of constraints with minimum crew and by following strict safety precautions.
The launch of the music video coincided with the kicking off of the 13th edition of the IPL in Abu Dhabi as the event could not be held in India due to pandemic and the subsequent lockdown.
