Youth sells painkillers as narcotics, held

The arrested youth was identified as Vignesh (22) alias Vicky of Ambedkar Nagar in Adambakkam, a third year degree student of a college, officials said. According to sources, Vignesh used to buy pain relief tablets from medical shops without prescription. He would then sell it to college students, autorickshaw drivers and migrant workers at a much higher rate after claiming that it was a narcotic substance. One of the customers was an auto driver who bought three tablets for Rs 1,000. He ground it to powder, mixed it with water and then injected it himself.

But he soon developed irritation in his eyes and began vomitting, and was rushed to the hospital. The hospital management informed the police about the case.

Following this, the Adambakkam police conducted inquiries with the auto driver, who confessed that he had purchased drug from Vignesh. Officials then traced Vignesh and arrested him, and seized 27 tablets from him.

The police are now trying to find out from where the suspect had been buying the tablets and who were his regular customers.
