COVID positive woman gives birth despite challenges
A few months ago, Priyadarshini penned lyrics to a song thanking frontline workers for their selfless work over the first few months of the pandemic.

Looking back on the song now, the 29-year-old rapper is glad she thanked doctors and nurses for their help because she tested positive on August 17, while she was pregnant with her second child.
Doctors said that she was extremely symptomatic, with decreased oxygen levels and a high viral load. “Most COVID-positive pregnant women either have mild or moderate symptoms. As soon as she tested positive, we monitored her for 24 hours,” said Dr Sabeeha TS – Senior Consultant, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Kavery Hospital.
On her 28th week of pregnancy, Priyadarshini went in for an emergency C-section, following which she was placed under ventilator support due to extreme hypoxia. To assist her breathing, she was put into a prone position, and a medically-induced coma.
“In those brief moments of clarity, the only thing I was worried about was my baby. I didn’t see my child for 14 days. Five days after delivery, it was my birthday, on August 27, one of the hospital staff video called me with my baby, and that was the first time I saw her,” said Priyadarshini.
According to Dr Karthik Thiyagarajan, neonatologist, the child developed sepsis one week afterwards. After platelet and plasma transmissions, the child recovered.
Now, Priyadarshini hopes to take her new daughter home to her 3-year-old daughter, Nayonika.
