Customs seize gold worth Rs 39.5 L at Chennai International Airport
Officials of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit have seized 758 gms of gold from four passengers who arrived from Dubai at the Anna International airport here since last night.

A release issued by the Commissioner of Customs on Sunday said two passengers — Kaja Mydeen (33) and Mohammad Sharkhan (21) of Chennai — who had arrived from Dubai by Fly Dubai flight were intercepted on suspicion of carrying gold. On their personal search two gold bars weighing 10 tolas each (232 grams) and one gold cut bit (31 gram) were recovered from their pant pockets. A total of 526 gms of gold valued at Rs 27.4 lakh was seized under the Customs Act.Â
In another two cases, two passengers — Abdul Jaleel Mohamed Ali (33) of Trichy and Ravuthar Naina Mohamad Abdul Hameeth (39) of Chennai — who had arrived by Air India Express Flight from Dubai were intercepted on suspicion of carrying gold. On their personal search four bundles (two each) of gold paste were recovered from their socks and two gold chains (one each) were recovered from their pant pockets. A total of 232 gms of gold valued at Rs 12.16 lakh was recovered and seized under the Customs Act. In all, 758 grams of gold valued at Rs 39.56 lakh was recovered and seized under the Customs Act 1962. Further investigation is under progress.
