    CHENNAI: Minister for Public Works EV Velu on Friday said that the government has decided to provide 350 per cent of the market value of the land which will be taken by the State government for the Parandur airport project.

    "In the public hearing meeting conducted by the State government, people of the 13 villages had urged the government to provide additional compensation and employment for them. As demanded by the villagers, the State government had decided to provide 350 per cent of market value of the land which will be taken by the State government for the Airport project and to provide employment for all the educated persons in the 13 villages," said Velu, while addressing the media in the Secretariat.

    The State government had planned to acquire 4,563.56 acres of land for the proposed Parandur airport in which 3,246.38 acres of land are private patta land and 1,317.18 acres of land is classified as government poramboke land.

    Out of the private patta land, 2,446.79 acres of land are irrigated and 799.51 acres are unirrigated land.

    Velu said that 1,005 houses in the 13 villages will be taken away for the airport and the State government apart from providing compensation and alternate land will also construct houses for people.
