'Don't park cars on streets': Corpn pastes stickers on vehicles
Apart from pasting stickers on the cars, the engineers also started removing unused vehicles that are parked for a long time on roads and streets.
CHENNAI: In a move to discourage city residents to park their cars on the streets impeding conservancy works, the Chennai Corporation has taken up a new trick.
The civic body has started pasting stickers on the windshields of the cars.
The stickers say that the vehicles hinder garbage removal works. Presently, the stickers are being pasted by engineers in Thiruvottiyur zone, which is likely to be adopted in other zones.
"We have been pasting such stickers for the last six weeks. When our conservancy workers visit streets, cars parked on the sides make some portions inaccessible. Pasting stickers will discourage them to use the streets as parking space, " an engineer attached to the north Chennai zone said.
Apart from pasting stickers on the cars, the engineers also started removing unused vehicles that are parked for a long time on roads and streets.
"There is some opposition from residents for removing the unused vehicles. Some people also oppose pasting stickers. So, we have stopped pasting stickers for the last few days. However, we will start this initiative again, " the engineer said.
He added that some vehicle owners started supporting the conservancy workers after pasting the stickers and stopped parking vehicles on streets.
Meanwhile, the civic body has warned the vehicle owners, who violate parking rules. The civic body has released a list of roads where the parking management system is in effect in its official website.
