Attempt to murder rowdy near Saidapet court; accused held

CHENNAI: Days after a gang attempted to murder a rowdy in a magistrate court in Saidapet, police, on Friday, arrested a 20-year-old suspect who escaped from the scene.

A police team had escorted Bala from Vellore central prison to produce him before the XVII Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Saidapet.
Around 3 15 pm, when police vehicle reached the court complex, the five member gang, who were waiting outside the court, tried to round up Bala when he got off the vehicle.
They were carrying weapons and before things could escalate, alert police personnel intervened and nabbed three persons.
Bala was secured by other cops at the court complex and taken inside the court to a safe place. The three persons who were apprehended were identified as D Shakthivel (24), Arun (23), and Abdul (23), residents of Aminjikarai.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang and Bala belonged to the same faction and they tried to eliminate him over a rivarly. Kotturpuram police arrested the trio.
Meanwhile, on Friday, police arrested R Thiruneelakandan (20) of Shenoy Nagar. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
