Kallakurichi case: Cops detain Chennai-based journalist
Police said that a team of officials visited his residence in Shastri Nagar, Chennai on Sunday morning, and asked him to accompany them.
CHENNAI: Senior journalist Savitri Kannan was detained by the Tamil Nadu police on Sunday for allegedly spreading misleading information regarding the death of the class 12 student in Kallakurichi in July.
Savitri Kannan is editor of the website Aram online. The journalist was released on station bail by the evening.
The journalist was informed that he would be questioned regarding his post in which it was mentioned that the suicide note recovered from the student was fake and he also claimed that Forensic Sciences Department officials had confirmed it was a fake note.
He was taken to Vallur police station near Tindivanam. The police said that they have registered a case under four IPC sections against him.
