CHENNAI: Ahead of the 11th edition of the Republic Day Heritage ride, Cycling Yogis along with the Tamil Nadu Tourism department organised Ponniyin Selvan trail - a three-day ride on January 20-22, 2023. The registration for the ride opened on Sunday (September 25) and will be closed Monday. At least 50 cyclists are expected to join the trail to cover around 300 km.

The registration started on Sunday, and so far 35 people have registered. It will be closed after 50 riders enroll till Monday for the heritage trail.

"The trail is supported by Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), including accommodation. On January 20, the ride starts from Veeranam lake and reaches Thanjavur. In the meanwhile we will be visiting places like Kadambur, Pallipaadai, Kumbakonam, and Pazhiyarai," said Ramanujar Moulana of Cycling Yogis.

On the second day, the journey will be from Thanjavur to Kodiyakarai, which covers around 125 kilometres. And on the last day, the trip will end in Kumbakonam with cycling.

"The unique feature of the Ponniyin Selvan trail is that we will be able to see the beautiful water bodies and agricultural space after we start from Veeranam lake. Cycling is the best way for a perfect view. In addition, the weather conditions will be good in January for cycling," said another cyclist.
