Man arrested for threatening woman with knife for asking money back

CHENNAI: City Police on Tuesday arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly threatening a woman with a knife and abusing her after the latter demanded the money she gave as loan to the man’s family.

The arrested person was identified as S Vignesh of Pillayar Koil street in T Nagar. Investigations revealed that Lakshmi (40), a resident of Habibullah Road had loaned an amount of Rs 2 lakh to one, Subramani. While Subramani returned Rs 1 lakh, he was delaying in settling the remaining amount.

Irate over this, Lakshmi used to visit Subramani’s house and demand that he return the money often.

On Tuesday, Subramani’s son, Vignesh went to Lakshmi’s residence and threatened her with a knife and abused her asking why was she pestering to return the loan. Vignesh also allegedly assaulted the woman before fleeing.

Based on the complaint from the woman, Pondy Bazaar police registered a case of woman harassment and arrested Vignesh. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
