Reporter's diary: Nainar cosying up to DMK? No, says BJP
As the TV channels repeatedly telecasted the video of the BJP legislator praising Chief Minister MK Stalin and Health Minister Ma Subramanian making rounds, this reporter had a day-long query on Nagendran.
CHENNAI: For the past few days, scribes covering the BJP beat got several queries from the political circles to know whether BJP leader Nainar Nagendran is inching closer to the ruling DMK. As the TV channels repeatedly telecasted the video of the BJP legislator praising Chief Minister MK Stalin and Health Minister Ma Subramanian making rounds, this reporter had a day-long query on Nagendran.
“Several BJP insiders are upset over the bonhomie BJP leader Nainar Nagendran is displaying towards top DMK leadership. The recent speech had raised the eyebrows of several saffron leaders and this is disturbing. Can you please find out what is happening,” a senior BJP functionary asked in a hushed tone over the phone.
“Even as our party state president K Annamalai is raking up public issues taking the government to task, the party floor leader in Assembly is repeatedly praising the CM both inside the Assembly hall and at government functions,” the functionary rued demanding the correspondent to get some political details.
When contacted, a confidential source in Kamalalayam admitted that the video had gone viral, thus creating rumours. “These are rumours to defame the image of Nagendran who is a grounded BJP worker. Do not believe the rumours that Nainar Nagendran is soon joining the DMK,” the source said wishing not to be named.
It may be noted that Nagendran commended the administration of CM Stalin and Health Minister Ma Subramanian stating that the complaints from his Tirunelveli Assembly constituency were attended to immediately after they were taken up with the CM.
