    CHENNAI: As the interest for pets among citizens has seen an increase every year in Chennai city, the Greater Chennai Corporation on Saturday stated that there are four veterinary hospitals to treat pet animals for free of cost.

    "A huge number of pet animals including dogs, cats, and birds have been raised by the citizens recently. To provide free treatment for pets when they fall sick, there are four centers functioning on behalf of the Veterinary Public Health Department in Chennai Corporation, " as per the release by the local body.

    In 2021-2022, a total number of 32,790 pet animals will be provided treatment in the four veterinary clinics. In addition, to create awareness among the public, the civic authorities aim to make rabies free Chennai, and will provide free treatment and anti-rabies vaccination for the dogs.

    As per the rules, every pet owner is required to get a pet licence at these centers. The owners should pay Rs 50 for a yearly licence.

    The four Veterinary Public Health Centres are located in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar (Zone 6), Nungambakkam (Zone 9), Kannamapet (Zone 10) and Meenambakkam (Zone 12). This veterinary treatment runs from 8 AM to 3 PM (excluding Sundays and public holidays.
