Celebrity status of politicos irking some

In a State which has seen two actors becoming Chief Ministers, BJP Tamil Nadu unit president K Annamalai chose to attack actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan saying that celebrities should not be seen as icons and they should be just left as celebrities and their comments should not be taken seriously.

Addressing Indian-American Community in California, US, Annamalai took a dig at Kamal Haasan for his tweet declaring that he held a meeting with party supports in Los Angeles. “He has come to America for taking rest. He gathered four-five party supporters in Los Angeles and held a meeting. He was missing from Tamil Nadu for a month. He had declared during last year’s election campaign that DMK should be completely destroyed,” Annamalai said in California.

Angered by Annamalai’s comment, Makkal Needhi Maiam’s spokesperson wondered whether California is located between Namakkal and Karur which is the hometown of Annamalai. “The BJP leader made the sarcastic comment on Haasan’s meeting with party supporters in Los Angeles where he had gone on a learning trip in connection with his profession. But he is speaking about Nammavar’s Los Angeles visit while he himself was in California. Where is California? Is it located between Namakkal and Karur,” the MNM leader said.

Meanwhile, Annamalai’s attack on actors is unlikely to go down well with its ally AIADMK which was led by two actors - MG Ramachandran who founded the party and J Jayalalithaa who succeeded him.
