    CHENNAI: As the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) proposed to extend the coverage under Chennai Shoreline Renourishment and Revitalization project, the planning authority has invited consultants to study the project area, that is city beaches.

    According to sources, the consultants have been invited to prepare detailed project report and a tender has been floated.

    Based on an announcement made in the state assembly, the government already allocated Rs. 100 Crore through a government order and announced that the project will cover a 31-km stretch between Marina and Kovalam.

    Meanwhile, during a meeting held a few days ago, the planning authority has decided to extend the project coverage upto Ennore Creek north of Marina Beach to cover 51 kilometers of shoreline.

    The 31 kilometers of the project area has been segregated into five sections to cover five themes. Shoreline between Marina and Santhome will cover entertainment theme, while the shoreline between Besant Nagar and Thiruvanmiyur will cover health and lifestyle theme. Shoreline between Neelankarai and Olive Beach will cover environmental theme and shoreline between Akkarai and Uthandi will cover art and culture theme.

    Shoreline between Muttukadu and Kovalam will have water sports facilities.

    The state government has allowed the CMDA to form a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to implement the project.
