CHENNAI: The Madras High Court ordered a private road infrastructure firm to make arrangements for installing video cameras round the clock for two weeks to avoid unwanted incidents due to the undergoing protest by a section of retrenched employees with two toll plazas in Perambalur and Ariyalur districts.

Justice R Suresh Kumar passed the order on hearing of a petition filed by Tiruchy Tollway Private Limited. The petitioner organisation submitted through its counsel that few employees who were sacked by the contracting agency are staging protests near two toll plazas of the company in Sengurichi in Kallakurichi district and Thirumandurai in Perambalur district.

The petitioner informed the court that the protesters are disturbing the free vehicular movements near the toll plazas despite the HC passing an interim order restraining them from blocking the toll plaza activities. Recording the submissions, the judge directed the Superintendent of Police Perambalur and Kallakurichi districts to provide adequate police security around the clock in both toll plazas and in respect of which to maintain the law and order by deploying minimum force.

“There shall be a direction to the petitioner to make arrangements to install video cameras from various angles with the help of police to monitor the ongoing activities in the two plazas including the agitating employees who are claiming that they are protesting nearer to the toll plazas,” the court ordered.
