Builder conned by duo in Thiruvanmiyur, loses Rs 2.5L

CHENNAI: City Police have launched a hunt for two men who posed as policemen and conned a builder outside a shop in Thiruvanmiyur claiming that they have visual proof of him eve-teasing women at a MTC bus stop and took away his bag containing Rs 2.5 lakh.
The conmen told the builder that they have to submit the ‘evidence’ to a senior police officer and fled the scene.
Police sources said that the victim, Ilanchezhian- a builder first went to one of his under-construction site on Sowdeshi Nagar in Velachery. He withdrew cash from a bank and went to a hardware store in Thiruvanmiyur to place orders for construction materials, when the ‘policemen’ apprehended him.
The duo told Ilanchezhian that they had received complaints that he was stalking women near bus stop and made obscene gestures at them.
In the pretext of enquiry, one of them snatched the cash bag in Ilanchezhian’s hand and asked him about the source of cash. Before he could explain, they took the bag and then pointed to a police vehicle at a distance and said that they have to submit the bag to their senior police officer.
