Eye make-up will gain prominence in the future, say city’s makeup artists
With facemasks becoming a permanent accessory, there is a discussion on whether makeup is going to be a priority or even possible while wearing a mask.
Chennai
Makeup artist Olivia Anugraha doesn’t suggest any makeup while wearing a mask because it might clog the pores. Instead, she recommends using a tinted sunscreen before stepping out. “If you are wearing a mask while going outside, try and avoid any makeup. One can apply tinted sunscreen instead. Gloss or creamy lipstick can transfer easily to the mask. So, I would suggest matte transfer-proof lipstick. This will stay longer,” says Olivia.
Since the eyes are the focus, she advices to focus on eye makeup. “You can give more attention to eyebrows – make sure it is well-groomed. Use a nice concealer under the eyes — it would make your eyes look brighter and more refreshed. During the day-time, use earthy tone eyeshadows. Also, invest in smudge-proof kajal pencils. These days, you will get different types of eyeliners in different colours. You can use colour eyeliners matching with your mask and outfit. Don’t forget to curl the lashes and apply mascara. If you are experimental, you can even try using contact lenses. It entirely depends on the individual to wear makeup or not while wearing a mask,” she quips.
Sringa Syam, another makeup artist from Chennai, says that nobody is going to sport a full-make up while wearing masks. “With masks covering most of the face, the only attention point is the eyes. So, I think quirky eye makeup styles will become a new trend with people focussing more on eye makeup. In the coming months, we can expect a lot more bold trends in the eyes and brow section,” says Sringa.
With virtual meetings becoming a mandatory thing now, a lot of people have started to apply makeup for Zoom meetings. “The need to apply makeup for virtual work meetings have increased now. Instead of house clothes, people have started wearing work clothes and apply minimal makeup for such meetings.”
Sringa observes that transfer-proof makeup products will be having more takers than before. “Usually, we apply transfer-resistant makeup exclusively for brides. But with the ‘new normal’, I think people tend to try such makeup products. People are signing up for online makeup classes not just to learn to apply makeup but also to gain knowledge on how to select makeup products online. We always had trust issues while buying certain products online. But these classes give great suggestions and tips on how to select products from online stores,” she adds.
