A communique has revealed that officials here have zeroed in on 13 trains in which participants at the Nizamuddin event might have travelled to several southern cities during third week of March. Hundreds who took part in the Delhi congregation had tested positive in the last fortnight, prompting authorities to flag it as a single largest source or cluster of corona spread.
On Saturday, senior divisional security commissioner of Chennai Railway Division wrote to commercial and mechanical departments, requesting them to “take necessary action with the details of passengers who had travelled in the identified train coaches.” The senior DSC has also implored the senior divisional commercial manager and senior divisional mechanical engineer to advise TTEs, mechanical, electrical and contract staff who had travelled in the trains to immediately consult doctors.
Going by the correspondence, a copy of which is available with DT Next, the zone has identified four coaches (S1, S2, S5 and S6) in Duronto Express train no 12270 (towards Vijayawada) dated March 17 and general class-II coaches of Janshatabdi train no 12078 (towards Ongole and Chirala) dated March 18 in which infected congregation participants were suspected to have transmitted the virus to traveling passengers and railway employees. The RPF boss of Chennai has also cautioned that the participants of the Nizamuddin congregation could have travelled in 11 other south bound trains between March 14 and 20.
