Efforts of a 14-year old Edgar Sebastian, resident of Chellanam village in Kerala, to save a Covid-19 and sea erosion hit coastal village paid off after President Ramnath Kovind took cognizance of his letter and instructed the Kerala government to take immediate steps to save the village from disaster.

Sebastian wrote a letter to the President saying that it is very important to build a sea wall to save the village and he is his last hope.

Sources at Rashtrapati Bhavan told IANS, "Considering the letter of the 14-year-old student from Kerala, written on July 25, the President's Secretary K.D. Tripathi has not only written a letter to the Chief Secretary of Kerala, but also had a conversation with the Secretary to the Governor of the state and asked them to help the villagers."

Seeking help from the President, Sebastian in his letter wrote, "My village Chellanam is battling disasters, but there is no one to help us. Every year, twice my parents have to run away from the house. Sea water enters the house during summer and monsoon due to sea erosion. Like every year, we were ready to go to our relative's place but since coronavirus has entered into the third stage of community spread in our area so we couldn't go. Meanwhile, the sea erosion has started again from July 16."

"I have read that the Arabian Sea is one of the boundaries of India. I believe you have the responsibility to protect the borders. You are my last hope. Please help us to get a sea wall build to protect the village from the waves," he further wrote.

Chellanam is a coastal village in Kochi which is badly hit by corona and sea erosion which started from July 16 has made things worst. Hundreds of families have been affected due to this.
