    CHENNAI: The flight services between Chennai to Jeddah, which was suspended due to the COVID-19 lockdown, has resumed operations on Wednesday evening, as reported by Daily Thanthi.

    Since March 2020, direct flights services between Chennai and Jeddah were suspended due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

    Even after the pandemic eased and normal conditions returned, these direct flights did not resume.

    There has been continuous demand from passengers for the reinstatement of these direct flights, especially due to the high number of travelers visiting the holy Islamic sites of Makkah and Madinah throughout the year.

    After four years, the Saudi Arabian Airlines has reintroduced the Chennai to Jeddah flight service.

    Currently, these flights will operate twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays.

    On the first day of service, the flight departed from Jeddah at 12 pm with 132 passengers and arrived at Chennai International Airport at 5:15 pm.

    Subsequently, the same aircraft departed Chennai for Jeddah at 7 pm with 222 passengers on board.

    The flight duration from Chennai to Jeddah is approximately 5 hours and 30 minutes.

    The flights services are currently scheduled for just two days a week, there are indications that services may soon expand to three days, including Fridays.
