Jewellery shop owner, who received stolen gold from Anna Univ sexual assault case accused, held
120 sovereigns of gold were seized from him based on Gnanasekaran’s information

CHENNAI: The police arrested a pawn shop owner who allegedly bought stolen jewellery from Gnanasekaran, accused in the Anna University sexual assault case.
Official seized 120 sovereigns from the man, Kunal Seth, based on the information provided by Gnanasekaran, who was interrogated by the Pallikaranai police for three days in custody in connection with theft cases.
Based on his alleged confession that he was involved in seven theft cases in Pallikaranai involving more than 200 sovereigns, the police arrested him. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Gnanasekaran was arrested by the police for indulging in burglaries within the Neelankarai and Kanathur police station limits in 2019.
To hide his identity as a thief, he started biriyani business in Kotturpuram, Gnanasekaran told police during questioning by the Pallikaranai police. Officials suspect that Gnanasekaran was involved in seven house burglary cases targeting independent buildings and villas in Pallikaranai and suburban areas from 2019 to 2022.
Subsequently, acting on Gnanasekaran's confession, the police seized 120 sovereigns from Kunal Seth, a second-hand jewelry dealer-cum-pawn shop owner in Alandur who buys and sells old ornaments.
The police arrested Kunal Seth for purchasing stolen jewelry. He was produced before the Alandur court and was remanded in custody.
