Modi, Annamalai among leaders to pay tributes
A famous actor-turned-politician, MGR, as he was popularly known, founded the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and led the party to victory in assembly elections
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister of State L Murugan, BJP state president K Annamalai and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay paid rich tributes to M G Ramachandran on Friday.
PM Modi said, “I pay homage to MGR on his birth anniversary. His efforts to empower the poor and build a better society greatly inspire us.”
Union Minister L Murugan hailed MGR and said, “Through the films, he brought deep ideas against corruption in politics in a revolutionary way.”
In his tribute, state BJP president K Annamalai underscored MGR’s commitment to the welfare of the marginalised.
TVK president Vijay, in his message, remembered MGR as a “miracle” who had overcome immense poverty to become a towering figure in State politics.
“He broke the myth of “Koothadi” (actor) and became the centre of Tamil Nadu's political history. He became an unshakable winner. He became the miracle of Tamil Nadu politics,” Vijay said, paying tribute to MGR’s remarkable journey.
