All-round performance helps Tiruppur defeat Trichy

CHENNAI: An all-round and dominant performance from iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans helped it register a 46-run victory over Ba11sy Trichy in the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023 match in Salem on Sunday. After Trichy opted to bowl first, the Tiruppur batters came out all guns blazing to post 201 for four off their stipulated 20 overs.

In the chase, Trichy never got going and could muster only 155 for eight at the end. Following the result, Tiruppur is fifth on the table with four points from as many matches while the bottom-placed Trichy is yet to open its account in four games. In the first essay, opener S Radhakrishnan (45 off 42 balls, 3 fours, 2 sixes) and No.3 R Sai Kishore (50 off 24 balls, 4 fours, 4 sixes) set the tone with a match-influencing 96-run partnership for the second wicket. Sai Kishore’s promotion to No.3 worked wonders as the southpaw took the attack to the opposition from the get go. Vijay Shankar (31 not out off 18 balls, 1 four, 2 sixes) and B Anirudh Sitaram (51 off 25 balls, 8 fours, 1 six) also played their part, adding 80 runs in a little over six overs for the fourth-wicket stand. Chasing a daunting target, Trichy lost wickets at regular intervals, with Daryl S Ferrario (42 off 40 balls, 5 fours, 1 six) being the only batter to breach the 40-run mark. Pacer P Bhuvaneswaran (4/41) impressed once again, bagging a four-wicket haul, and ended up winning the ‘Man of the Match’ award.
