1.39 lakh jobs created; 46 new industries inaugurated since 2021, says TN govt
Union Ministry of Statistics survey stated job creation increased by 7.5% in Tamil Nadu
CHENNAI: Unfazed by the criticism of the Opposition about Chief Minister MK Stalin’s business trip to the US which fetched over Rs 7,600 crore in investments, the State Industries ministry on Thursday said that as many as 1.39 lakh jobs were created through 46 newly established factories since the return of the DMK to power in 2021, which projected Tamil Nadu as the pioneer of industrial progress.
In an elaborate statement circulated to the media, detailing the achievements of the industries department, the State government said that in the previous regime between 2016 and 2021, MoUs worth Rs 15,543 crore and capable of generating 10,316 jobs were signed for establishing 21 industries. However, only 12 industries have commenced production.
Drawing a parallel between the industries departments’ achievements in the two regimes, the government release said that investment to the tune of Rs 9.74 lakh crore capable of providing jobs to 31 lakh youth was attracted during the last three years of the Dravidian model regime.
Initially, about 27 industries were inaugurated in the incumbent Dravidian model regime. Another 19 industries worth Rs 17,616 crore were inaugurated by Chief Minister MK Stalin.
Altogether, 46 new industries were inaugurated in the three-year DMK regime. Also, several new industries are in the process of opening business in Tamil Nadu.
The industrial progress of the Dravidian model regime has drawn national-level attention and the fact has been confirmed by the data released by the Union Statistics Ministry, the government release added, listing out the investments secured during the Global Investment Meet-III among the various investment conclaves organised by the state government and investment trips undertaken by Chief Minister Stalin to the US among the foreign countries in the last couple of years.
The survey of the Union Statistics Ministry has demonstrated that job creation has increased by 7.5% in the manufacturing sector in Tamil Nadu, which is also on top of the chart in terms of availability of factories and jobs, the release added, remarking that history would tell that Tamil Nadu is a pioneer in the industrial sector across the country.
