COIMBATORE: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday assured the southern states they will not lose a "single Parliamentary seat" due to delimitation and accused Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin of spreading "misinformation" on the issue.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear in the Lok Sabha that not a single seat will be reduced in any southern states due to delimitation. When the exercise is done on a pro-rata basis, the number of seats will rather increase and not decrease,” he said while addressing cadres after inaugurating a new party office in Coimbatore. He also opened new party offices virtually in Tiruvannamalai and Ramanathapuram districts.

Shah’s assertion on delimitation came in response to Stalin calling an all-party meet on March 5 by claiming that the state may lose eight Lok Sabha seats if delimitation is done based on population.

Shah demanded an explanation from Stalin for lying to people on the issue of fund allocation to the state. “The Narendra Modi government has given Rs 5,08,337 lakh crore to the state from 2014 to 2024 as against Rs 1,52,901 lakh crore by the then UPA regime from 2004 to 2014. In addition, the centre provided Rs 1.43 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu for infrastructure development. You (Stalin) have the responsibility to reply to my questions about the lies you have told the people. It's the then UPA regime which has done injustice to the state,” he said..
