CM Stalin lauds Mariyappan Thangavelu for winning bronze in Paris 2024 Paralympics

CHENNAI: In the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympics Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu won silver and bronze respectively in the men's high jump T63.

In his tweet on X, the CM said, "Congratulations to Mariyappan Thangavelu on winning third time in Paralympics, I wish our golden son, who is an inspiration to many with his achievements and let him continue his successful journey".[sic]
Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated Mariyappan on clinching a bronze medal and posted a message on X "Congratulations to Mariyappan Thangavelu on the winning the Bronze medal in the Men's High Jump T63 event. It is commendable that he has won medals in three consecutive editions of the Paralympics. His skills, consistency and determination are exceptional."[sic]
Sharad achieved a top jump of 1.88 meters, setting a new Paralympic record in the T42 category, surpassing the previous record held by Mariyappan, who had claimed silver at the Tokyo Games. This time, Mariyappan had to settle for bronze with a best jump of 1.85 meters.
