CHENNAI: The much-anticipated showdown between MDMK principal secretary Durai Vaiko, who had resigned from his post a day before Sunday’s administrative council meeting, and deputy general secretary Mallai Sathya fizzled out on Sunday as the former’s father and party secretary, Vaiko, brokered peace between the warring leaders.
Durai Vaiko said he revoked his decision to quit from the party post. While addressing the media persons along with Vaiko, deputy general secretary Mallai Sathya and other leaders, Durai said it is natural for any party to have differences of opinion within. "I made the decision to resign following a few social media posts. Now, Mallai Sathya has regretted his actions and assured to work for the welfare of the party. I accepted it and have decided to continue as the party's principal secretary," he added.
Meanwhile, Sathya told the reporters that the party will work unitedly to fulfil the ambitions of its founder, Vaiko.
Earlier, Vaiko said that Durai and Sathya spoke open-heartedly in the administrative council meeting.
"They embraced each other and shook hands to signal unity. Mallai Sathya has promised to work with the principal secretary and for the welfare of the party," party founder Vaiko said.
He added that the administrative council meeting has passed a resolution to hold protests against the central government for passing the Waqf Bill on April 26.
"I will take part in the protest in Chennai along with deputy general secretaries AK Mani and Mallai Sathya. Durai Vaiko will take part in Madurai. Deputy general secretary TM Rajendiran will participate in a protest to be held in Coimbatore. Party's general council meeting will be held in June and the date will be announced later," he said.
