Low-pressure area forms over Bay of Bengal; rain predicted in 25 TN districts

CHENNAI: A low-pressure area formed over southeast Bay of Bengal on Monday is likely to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to as many as 25 districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu, in the next few hours.
The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to become a well-marked low-pressure area and move west-northwestwards towards north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts in the next two days.
This has triggered rainfall activity in the wee hours of Monday. In Chennai, many roads witnessed water stagnation, which led to traffic gridlock in the morning hours.
Moderate to heavy rain is predicted over Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Karur, Tiruchy, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, and Tiruvannamalai districts for the next few hours.
In the last 24 hours, Coimbatore received 74 mm of rainfall, Kancheepuram 70 mm, Chengalpattu 54 mm, Ramanathapuram 47 mm, and Krishnagiri 26 mm, while Pallikaranai and Ennore Port in Chennai recorded 26 mm and 17 mm, respectively.
