CHENNAI: Leader of Opposition (LoP) and General Secretary of AIADMK Edapaddi K Palaniswami on Tuesday strongly condemned the attack on a woman police officer in Aruppukottai in Virudhunagar district by a group of protestors and demanded the State government to take stern action against the attackers to ensure that no one else dares to attack police personnel in the future.
The incident took place when family members and friends of a person named Kalikumar, a native of Perumalthevanpatti, who was murdered by a gang on Monday, resorted to a road-blockade on Aruppukottai-Thiruchuli Road demanding immediate arrest of his murderers.
“It was shocking to see protestors trying to attack Deputy Superintendent of Police Gayathri when she tried to prevent the protest turning into a riot. The protestors are seen pulling the woman police officer by her hair,” Palaniswami said in a social media post.
The incident exposes the failure of law and order, he stated. People are emboldened to attack anyone, even a senior police officer, he said.
The law and order situation has turned out to be a laughing stock under the DMK government, he added.
Police who are supposed to ensure the safety and security of the public are ironically at the receiving end under an ‘incompetent’ DMK government, he said.
The LoP demanded the CM to take firm action against those who assaulted the woman police officer.
