CHENNAI: A sessions court in Chennai granted bail to Mahavishnu of Paramporul Foundation in the case of insulting a visually impaired school teacher, after he submitted the letter tendering apology for his remarks.

Principal sessions judge S Karthikeyan heard the bail plea moved by Mahavishnu.

The counsel for Mahavishnu submitted that his client has no intention to degrade the physically challenged community and submitted a letter of tendering apology.

However, on behalf of the State, the city public prosecutor objected to the bail plea as the petitioner made derogatory remarks against the physically challenged community. After perusing the records and papers, the judge granted bail to Mahavishnu on condition.

On August 28, Mahavishnu made a spiritual speech at a government school in Saidapet advocating rebirth and other religious ideas. He also blamed students for their own difficulties, which prompted outrage.

Along the same lines, he also registered a negative impression of people with disabilities. A teacher with impairment, who was present at the speech, objected and demanded Mahavishnu to end the speech, who in turn verbally abused the teacher.

The video of the event went viral on social media platforms and sparked controversies. Mahavishnu was subsequently arrested by police based on the complaint of the teacher at Chennai International Airport on September 7, as he returned from Australia.
