TN govt will not implement CAA in the state: Stalin
Stalin also questioned the notification of the CAA rules more than four years after Parliament passed the legislation in December 2019.

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday reiterated that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) brought by the BJP government at the centre would not be implemented in the state. Also, it will never provide room for any legislation that shall 'impinge on India's unity.'
"This law will not do any good or benefit as it will create division among the people of India. It is the opinion of this Government that this Act is completely unnecessary and should be repealed, " Stalin said in a statement.
Hitting out at the BJP regime for notifying the rules for implementing the CAA 'in haste' when the Lok Sabha polls were around the corner, Stalin said the CAA and its rules went against the basic structure of the Constitution. He noted that the CAA went against pluralism, secularism, minority communities and the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees.
Recalling the resolution adopted by his party government on September 8, 2021, he said that it had sought the withdrawal of the CAA and forwarded it to the Union government. Like Tamil Nadu, several states have opposed the CAA. He said this has led to a question if this has been implemented now for "electoral politics; to divert people and to escape from criticisms of the Supreme Court.
